I am sooo sorry to take soo long before I respond. Here its soo bussy that I could not have time to sit and write.Anyway this warriors game helped me a lot, or I can say, It oppened my mind especially for me to know that change stars with me. I do not have to wait for someone to came with ideas or solutions, but, that I have to. As well I was someone who was shy to bring new ideas to the community because of soo many assumptions, soo This time I was brave enough and wanting to see what might be the outcome. I even found that this game can be applied in soo many ways. We had the regional gathering in South Africa and some of the ideas I used them. For now I cannot have any negative aspects I can think of only that time to respond, sometimes I would be bussy and do not have time to sit and write
5,4,3,2,1,GO!!
I had a bussy week!! Lots of fun with kids as well facing challanges on other things. What I managed to do isa) Pick up plastics and papers with kids and now the following thing is to recycle them. They enjoyed it because they got fruits afterwards. b)For food sercurity (about maize) I managed to look for supplier who are cheaper, so tommorow we are going to buy maize that will benefit the whole community. (For this some of community members are going to write some comments on this as I cannot share photos.c) Nutrition and Gardening, we came out with a sort of additional stuff to the existing planting system we have, as well we had a delicious lunch I had to prepare with other few Kufundees. This did not go well as I was expecting because other community people were out. see some of my photos
You Are Not Alone!
We had community lunch on Thursday and was lucky that I could share my Ideas with the whole group. I shared my idea on improving the way we eat as a community with ladies ( I targeted ladies because they are the ones who cook a lot) and we planned that next week on Monday whoever is ready to help cook or whoever have a healthy recipe and want to share on the lunch day, will meet me and make a plan of what will be needed, and go for it.
For the planting callender I shared this with my garden team(Silas, Admire and Lucia) We are now going to list up crops that we have to add planting now and record them. We are also going to come out with a list of plant that we grow annualy. This we are going to do it next week.
Something important came out from our council day that I want to share with you, is about lack of maize within our community. This warriors game helped me to facilitate ways we can help ourselves on this issue. We came out with the list of other starch besides maize that can help us. So, we had ideas of having to look for other grains and have bread instead of sadza( made from maize meal) . In order for the community to have this, we are going to put our monies together and I commited myself to look for suppliers of different grains and compare prices and buy as soon as possible with the help from Kufunda.
Great Ideas Are Born From Small Causes.
For me, I cannot separate these two as they go hand in hand. I always want to improve the way we eat within my community through co-ordinating community lunches once every week with the food that we grow in a healthy way. Already we are doing this but, I feel there are some other areas that has to be improved or added to this Like;a) Idea of spreading this to everyone who is in the village so that we can live healthy. b) comming up with the planting callender of the year round(for summer and winter), that is for the garden. This will help for constant supply of vegetables for community lunches c)Community lunches to be cheap, healthy and affordable,(Everyone who is in the community to learn that they can live healthy even with the few they have.
How I am going to do this
Step one-Come up with the planting callender that I am going to share with the food production team that consist of types of vegetables to grow and when, also, with aproximate quantities. This I think it will help so that we could be able to have variety of vegetables.
Step two-Have recipes that are delicious!!! out of what we produced in the garden. This I am planning to invite women from the community to help(even men).To open up space for everyone within the community to show their talents on preparing food or sharing knowledge about nutrition.
So, this is what I am planning to take forward, but, I still have have a challenge on how to work together with others who seem to be ignorant?
I make a difference
Level 3
I MAKE A DIFFERENCE
MY TRASH
Thank you Val, for giving us this task,I tent to forget sometimes to make use of what I can say, waste. This week I havent done much as I was suppossed to because I was bussy with other work. So, I have collected stuff that I have to recycle. Here is the list of what I managed to do;
1. I picked up plastics that I am going to make a football for my son, Kudzi.(the other plastics I will use them for tree nursary
2.Writting pads and newspapers, these I am going to donate them to the team at Kufunda who learnt how to make new papers out of them.
Vegetable waste-I heaped them so that I will make a compost
Empty tins- I will use them for tree planting as well(only big ones)
I still have other stuff I need to see what I can do with them like very small bottles and small tins.
this project is an ongoing thing to me as it is part of my work, I will continue with what I havent finished, also I thank Abhivyakti(our partner organization). they are much into recycling and that is where I get some other ideas on Zero waste.
MY AXCESS
As little as I have, I know there is someone out there who has less than I do.
This week I had to look arround my belongings and I surely found that there were some of the stuff I don’t use that have been sitting for a long time. These includes, my old shoes, dresses and my child’s clothes. There were not soo many but I donnated them to my relativesat my rural home. I donnated vegetables to vegetables to my sister and her neighbours and a book to Nothando. Also I am going to give the paper making team newspapers as I have said .
MY CONSUMPTION
Everything I consume has an impact in the world
This was not soo easy!! what I tried to economise is to have two big meals per day rather than three that I was used to. I hope this will help me as there is hunger in Zimbabwe right now. We use maize as our stapple food and we dont have much,so, I am trying now to use less and have bread made out of soya for the the other meal. As well I make my own bread at home. I am someone who uses much cooking oil, so, This week I was aware of it, Imanaged to use less. I am now looking for other means of saving not only food, but other stuff like water.(we have a big problem here of water)
This has been a great week, I thank you guys for giving us these great tasks As This is part of our work here, I am going to share these great ideas with my colleagues here. I am going on with Zero waste Also to always be aware of what imput I will be giving to the world and be concious of what Itake from it!!!!!
My purpose, commitment and action.
Purpose
As a Zimbabwean at this momment in life, there is a big need for people to come together to bring a change especially youths as they are the future of tomorrow, so, by joining this school of warriors, I can see this as a benefit as it will build my capacity in bringing a change even in my country. Meeting youths from different backgrounds with the same vision will be a benefit to me and to the world as I have a hope that this is what the world is waiting for. I do believe also that practicals that are to to be done are the big milestone in bringing achange in the word together.
Lastly I’ve heard about the school of warriors last year and I still have a passion to take part.
My commitment
I hope to work together with youths that Kufunda works within bringing change with best possible ways. You know, people have resources around them that they cannot make use of, so there is a need to facilitate the process.
Action
I hope that there will be a space for sharing ideas and support for each other during the programme and hope this will help when taking action back home. As well practices that are to happen is a huge support for a bigger picture.
2nd task:Whom I am right now.
a)I can say, now I am someone who stepped into community development leadership, because I do co-hold the food sercurity and Nutrition part at Kufunda. I am also someone with the passion of working with youth on how we can grow enough food for ourselves in a healthy way, so right now we are sharing ideas on how to make this possible with global friends. I am into hosting as well.
I like music and dance even though i am not good at dance.
b)I do feel that this is a big area to be explored and needs others to help as this I am sure food is becoming an issue worldwide.
c)I do not have a big doubt on this to happen because I can see the need now
d)My big dream is to see the world out of hunger especially in my country and people able to have access to nutritious food. Also to accomplish this there is a need to work together
e)yes, challenges are there, Here it is difficult for people tohave land to grow their own food , so most of urban people depend on buying food rather than growing it.The political and economic situation in my country is also a big challenge
About myself
